Planning your Summer

With the summer holidays upon us, many of us are enjoying having time to do what we want, catch up on tv shows and movies, spend time with friends and loved ones and generally relax! However, many of us are starting to struggle with the lack of routine that the holidays can bring. Here are a few things you can do to stay productive and introduce some routine during your vacation time.

Reflect on the previous semester and set yourself goals

By reflecting on the previous semester you can evaluate:

  • What did I do well?
  • What did I not do so well?
  • What will I do differently next semester?

By evaluating our performance and process we can come up with goals to help us achieve in the future. Process goals are what we will do to achieve our performance goals, i.e. "I will read up 1 article on [the subject] after dinner to further my knowledge".

Get a job

Getting a job is fantastic for bringing routine and purpose to our days. Not only will this bring in extra money, but you can also make friends and gain valuable transferable skills. Why not check out Student Job, they can help you find what you are looking for and even help you write your CV with their helpful templates. They can even help you find an internship in the field you would like to progress in. Sometimes it's more about what you learn than what you earn!

Volunteer

Why not use your extra time in service of others? Volunteering is another great way to get out there, meet new people and develop new skills. Giving a few hours of your time can make a big difference to your community. Visit Do-it.org to find opportunities in your local area.

Exercise

Whether you go to the gym, join a class, swim, do a home workout or get your walking boots on; exercise is a great way to blow off steam and fill your time productively. Not only will it enhance your mood, boost your energy and promote better sleep. It will also improve your physical health!

Read

Make a start on your reading list, or read something for fun! Why not look up some titles as recommended by The Literary Hub.

Pick up a hobby

Why not pick up a hobby this summer? You could try:

  • Knitting or crocheting
  • Baking or cooking
  • Gardening or DIY
  • Blogging
  • A sport
  • Join a club
  • Learn an instrument

You could even meet people through your newfound love!

Whatever you do this Summer remember to relax and enjoy the time off and most of all… RELAX!
