A Level results: Your next steps and going to University

Exam results season is just around the corner. Here are a few tips to get you ready for the next phase of your life!

A-level results day is just around the corner; 18th August and for Scottish Highers results, 9th August. The results will be available from approximately 8 am on results day, however, if you are in Scotland and have registered for MySQA your results will be emailed/texted to you.

Your A-level results are sent immediately to UCAS, and UCAS Hub will be updated accordingly - usually about 8 am. You'll need to exercise patience because many students will be checking the system to see if they've received offers.

What happens next?

Even if you fall short of the required exam results, the university or college may still accept you. Depending on how well your examinations go, you might receive a place on either your firm or insurance pick. The university or institution could make you an alternative offer called a "modified course offer" that you can accept or reject. Even if you might not secure a spot, you can use the UCAS Clearing service to discover which courses still have openings. Call your colleges or institutions if no decisions are displayed to learn more.

If things don’t go to plan, you can learn more about exam appeals and reviews - You must work to set up the review as soon as you can and stay in touch with your institution or university to keep them informed.

If you get the grades though… Congratulations! UCAS will let you know in your application when your place is confirmed, and your chosen university will send you details of what you need to do next.

Don’t forget to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance if you are eligible. Check out if you’re eligible here.
