Popular Student FAQs

We provide three core types of support: specialist mentoring, study skills support, and assistive technology training. These services are all tailored to your needs and funded through the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).

No. If you’re eligible for DSA, your support is fully funded. That means there’s no cost to you – YorLinc is paid directly by Student Finance.

To access DSA-funded support, you’ll need formal evidence of your condition. This might be a diagnostic report, medical letter, or confirmation from a qualified professional.

If you haven’t been diagnosed yet, YorLinc can help guide you through what to do next – such as speaking to your GP or your university’s disability support team to begin the process.

When you attend your DSA Needs Assessment, simply tell your assessor that you’d like YorLinc to deliver your support. You don’t need a special reason or permission – just make your preference clear, and we’ll handle the rest.

Yes. If your current support isn’t meeting your needs or doesn’t feel like a good fit, you can request to switch to YorLinc. Speak to your DSA Needs Assessor or university disability adviser to begin the transfer process – we’re happy to support students who are switching from another provider.

Once YorLinc is confirmed as your provider, we’ll get in touch with you by email or phone to set up your first session. You’ll be able to choose a time and format (remote or in-person) that suits your schedule and preferences.

Yes. We offer both face-to-face and remote support, depending on where you’re based and what works best for you. Many students benefit from in-person sessions, but we also offer flexible online options to fit around your timetable.

We understand that things don’t always go to plan. If you’re unwell or something comes up, it’s easy to reschedule – just let us know as soon as possible.

However, under the rules set by your funding body, missing two sessions in a single semester without notice means your support could be paused for the rest of that semester.

To keep your support running smoothly, it’s important to give advance notice wherever you can. We’re always happy to rearrange sessions – just get in touch.
